Zipaquirá has a charming charm for its streets that preserve a colonial architecture. It is a place where you can breathe an atmosphere of tranquility. Its people are very friendly and you can find very rich local food at a good price. 

How to get to Zipaquirá?

One option to get to Zipaquirá is a bus from the transport terminal in Bogotá. This trip takes about 1 hour and a half depending on the traffic. You can take a transmilenio to the portal del norte in Bogotá. The session is located where the intermunicipal buses to Zipaquirá are. These buses frequently run every 10 to 15 minutes and the journey takes 45 minutes depending on traffic.

Finally, if you want to live a more special experience, there is also the option of taking the train that leaves from the Sabana station. In this locomotive you will enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the surroundings of Bogotá, typical food and local music.

Salt Cathedral

 The Salt Cathedral is the main attraction. It was chosen as the first wonder of Colombia. It really is a magical and surprising place because of its architecture. However, beyond the religious meaning, you will surely love this place for its beauty. 


You can visit different cultural and historical sites such as the archaeological museum of Zipaquirá where archaeological pieces from different pre-Hispanic cultures are exhibited. On the other hand, the Guillermo Quevedo Zornoza house, a colonial style place where utensils and pieces from the last centuries are kept. Finally the cultural center Colegio Gabriel García Márquez, where he studied the Nobel Prize for Literature and still preserves the different spaces of that time.  


 In Zipaquirá you can visit different places such as the Independence Plaza, the communal Plaza, Los Martires and the Esperanza Plaza.


Parque Jaime Duque

Finally this park is actually in the neighbouring municipality of Tocancipá, but it is only 15 minutes away from Zipaquirá. It is ideal to share with the family, it has many attractions that include the replica of the Taj Mahal, the 7 wonders of the ancient world, the biopark, among others.
