That’s the main advantage, because visitors can enjoy a beautiful town with a good conservation of the colonial architecture. Besides you will not spend a lot of money and specially you will have a very peaceful environment.

Really what people say or see on internet about Mompox, is just a little in comparison to what it is for real. For that reason, I consider Mompox as a hidden treasure in the colombian caribbean coast.

 2. Let’s doing a different tourism

If you speak spanish you don’t need a master guide or buying an expensive tour to see the emblematic places in Mompox. Just talking with native people you could know stories and cultural traditions. Everybody has a history to tell!

Have you ever seen a moto-carro? The Moto-carro is the typical transportation in Mompox, they are perfects for appreciating all the beauty of the colorful streets and the colonial houses, normally called with people names, for example “Doña Manuela”. In some of them you could lodge and I’m sure the host will have different stories to tell about the house and the former owners.

Handcraft is really unique. Mompox is well-known for the silver and the filigree accessories. Those ones have the precolumbian culture essence and prices are low related to the quality and details that filigree has. You must take at least one with you, it is not seeing all days…

Some of the unmissable places are: La Casa de la Cultura, visit the churches, learn about the colonial houses history, walk through the street in front of the river and La Calle del Medio.

Additionally, here is a religious tourism, staying in Mompox for an Easter week could be a different experience too. I challenge you to count how many churches Mompox has!

Talking about places where you should go, you have to go to the restaurant in front of Inmaculada church, last one is one of the oldest Mompox’s places, it has a beautiful panoramic view of the square and the river. Besides, go to “Los Bosques” sector for drinking a beer, chilling and observing how native people enjoy their land.

5. Currently is easier to get there

A time ago, one of the disadvantages to see Mompox was the roadway because It wasn’t in a good condition. Currently that’s not a problem because the roadway is good and even you find direct service transportation to Mompox from cities like Santa Marta, Barranquilla and Cartagena. Duration trip is around 6 or 7-hour for getting there.
