Overview

Santa Marta is Colombia's oldest city. Walking its streets is traveling through time. Every corner tells stories of conquest, independence, and commerce that made this Caribbean region prosper.

The walking tour starts at our offices and takes you directly to the historic heart: Cathedral Square, home to the first cathedral built in South America. It's not just a building. It's testimony to five centuries. It's where colonial architecture, religious power, and continental memory converge.

We advance toward iconic places: Plaza San Francisco (Franciscan convent), Simón Bolívar Park (historic events site), Tayrona Gold Museum (indigenous wealth), Correo Alley (commercial charm of the past), Novios Park (current bohemian life), San Juan de Dios Hospital (medical history), Casa Marina (republican splendor).

But the walking tour doesn't end in history. It ends in the senses. At Casa Marina, you'll experience professional coffee tasting from Sierra Nevada: four varieties (Caturra, Castillo, Yellow, Colombia). Our barista guides you through tasting technique, aromas, notes, terroir. It's sensory education.

Two hours. Ten centuries of history. Four coffees. An experience where your mind fills with stories and your palate awakens. Santa Marta isn't just observed. It's felt.

Traveler reviews

We really enjoyed this walking tour, especially because it was much more relaxed than the larger group tours we had done earlier in our trip. Our guide gave us a great introduction to Santa Marta's history while taking us through some of the most interesting parts of the historic center. The coffee tasting was a wonderful addition and gave us the opportunity to learn about Colombian coffee in a much more personal way. We tried different flavors and learned how the preparation can change the taste. It was a short but very enjoyable experience, and a great option for anyone who wants to combine culture, walking and coffee without spending the whole day on a tour.
